Cooler weather is here and so is the foliage. Time to put away the summer clothes, get out the sweaters and do more home cooking. Just imagine steaming hot waffles with warm maple syrup, bacon and some fresh fruit. That is what we at Palmer Lane Maple are busy doing these days. Bottling up 100%Pure Vermont Maple Syrup for your enjoyment. We have plenty of syrup for everyday use, but especially the dark syrup for cooking and baking. One of our fall favorites is baked beans with Pure Maple Syrup. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.

Don’t forget, the holidays are just around the corner. Need some ideas for that person that is hard to buy for. Why not send them some pure maple candy in the shape of Santa, Moose, Bear or the many other shapes we carry. Want to try something a little different? How about Maple Jelly Beans. We are the ONLY ones that have them! If you find them anywhere else, it is because they buy them from us. So get them direct from the source and be surprised – they are oooohhhhh so good.

We decided we needed a way to keep in contact with our customers and what is happening in the world of Vermont Maple and all the delicious goodies you can get from Palmer Lane Maple.

So just a couple of quick facts about who we are. I’m Paul, and I make the maple syrup we sell. I have been around sugaring my whole life, thanks to my neighbors who operated the Allen’s Sugarhouse in Essex Junction. I started my own sugaring operation in 1991 with 50 taps. We now have 600 taps and plan on doubling that number for the 2010 season. My wife, Colleen, is the expert candy maker! She isn’t from Vermont, but she makes maple candy better than many Vermonters, hands down! As proof of this, you can find our candy being sold in the Vermont Building at the Eastern States Exposition, better known as the Big E, in Springfield, MA this September.

We have won many awards for our maple syrup and maple candy, including Best of Show, Best of Class and numerous Excellent ribbons. We have heard many times we make the best flavored syrup our customers have ever tasted. We think so too, and believe it has to do with our wood fired evaporator and attention to detail when manually drawing off the syrup at the precise moment it is ready. We think you will like our syrup as well.

If you think the syrup is good, you should try our maple sugar candies! They are smooth, delicious, melt in your mouth and best of all…..PURE MAPLE! Colleen and I are the only ones to make our candy. Okay, so Colleen makes the candy! We also spend the time to be sure the candies not only taste the best, but look the best too. We take extra time to dip our candy in a thick maple syrup bath to create a thin crystal coating on the outside of the candy so the candy will last for 3-5 months if desired. We’re sure you won’t be able to resist them that long, but we do this to improve the shelf life for the many stores we serve. This process adds 2 days to making a batch of candy, and is the reason most other candy makers don’t do it.

This time of year we are gearing up, making tons (literally) of candy to help support the New England economy for the foliage season and the yearly pilgimage of “Leaf Peepers.” We have made this seasonal labor of love into a year round labor of love. We will keep making our products as long as there is a desire for them.

If there is anything you want to know about us, our products, maple syrup, or maple in general, drop us a line! We’d love to hear from you!

Paul
